Ashnikko has done it again. In her latest single, "Worms," the alt-pop star delivers fans an ode to self-sabotage. The track is an examination of the bleak state of the world and the ways in which we set ourselves up for failure, backed by an addictive blend of dynamic instrumentation that hooks listeners despite its short run time.

"Worms" opens with warm, plucky guitar riffs that are soon joined by a burst of beats and percussion. Then, Ashnikko croons, "The world is burning / I got worms in my brainz / Gonna bleach my eyebrows, change my name / The world is burning / And I laugh at the blaze." She then goes on to explain that she plays her life like a video game and thinks of new ways to self-sabotage herself.

In the track's second half, the artist shares that she accepts how things are. She tells herself that nothing matters and that she'll be fine despite the disaster as the percussion and beats increase in intensity. This all leads to one more apocalypse-accepting chorus before the song warps and fades to its end.

"Worms" arrives alongside the announcement of Ashnikko's long-awaited debut album WEEDKILLER. The forthcoming body of work, set to release on June 2, is a collection of irresistible songs that perfect the bold, genre-blending sound that has defined Ashnikko's work to date. Full of equal parts naked vulnerability and joyful rebellion, WEEDKILLER gives a thundering voice to the oppressed, telling the story of a faerie protagonist who seeks revenge against evil machines (aka Weedkillers) who feed on organic matter. Ashnikko will also head out on the "WEEDKILLER TOUR" to celebrate the record, starting on March 24, 2023, and ending on December 11, 2023.
