Baby Rose Sets Out on a Winding Journey in the Hypnotic 'Slow Burn'

Produced entirely by Canadian instrumental band BADBADNOTGOOD, Baby Rose’s Slow Burn is a timeless reintroduction. As she explores a raw depth not yet ventured into, there is not a single doubt that she is one of the new generation’s most promising.

Enlisting the help of acts like Mereba, Slow Burn is no solo effort; nonetheless, you’re left in a trance by Rose’s ability to stop time. With a voice that predates her, everything about her talent is time-honored, destined to happen through her.

A powerful entrance, “On My Mind” initiates our descent into Rose’s madness, a harrowing lullaby that sets an incredibly high standard for where the rest of the six-track project will take us. Hitting notes of psych rock and alternative indie, her shapeshifting knows no bounds. Melancholic and acidic, the project’s title track moves us along, as Rose croons about a wilting love. “One Last Dance” is another stand-out single, a bluegrass declaration of freedom.

Released less than a year after Through and Through, it’s evident that Slow Burn was a project too loud to stay in the kettle. Having already tasted impressive accolades as a newcomer, she’s not chasing recognition nor pandering with an easy hit; Slow Burn is bred from the gut. It will only stand the test of time and feed more into Rose’s promised longevity in R&B.

Speaking to how personal the joint effort of this project is, Rose shares “Slow Burn is our eclectic chemistry and the captured essence of our world’s colliding. Recording on tape with the band was a first, I felt like we were channeling Muscle Shaol’s rawness. It’s a reflection of past loves and losses, reminiscent of long drives down rural 95 from DC to NC as a child. This record represents venturing beyond boundaries, embracing freedom, and finding comfort. Enjoy the journey.”
