glaive Begs the Question "huh" in Breakneck Banger

The latest single from hyperpop auteur turned genre-eschewing extraordinaire, glaive, “huh” is the artist encapsulated, merging raw emotions with unfiltered electronic soundscapes.

The young artist infuses each sound with the same desperation his lyrics and vocal delivery accomplish. “huh” opens with a glittering landscape of synths, phasing in and out of focus, like zooming a lens into the scenery of the song. The beat drops into an industrial trap=meets=hyper-pop explosion of sound, weaving twinkling keys into the heavy noise of grinding percussion. It’s this dichotomy that captures the rawness of glaive’s artistry in sound: the light versus dark.

glaive's vocal performance in this single is a masterpiece, seeping layers of emotions into one word: “huh.” The edge to his voice takes listeners everywhere from an out-of-breath, post-sprint moment, to a crying breakdown, to the peak of a screaming match. Even without the additional context from the rest of the lyrics, the longing frenzy of glaive’s writing is tangible in that one word.

A music video accompanies the release of “huh,” artfully depicting the denial and self-destruction of falling for someone in a hazy film montage. glaive performs the song in casual snippets – in a forest, on a walk through town. These are overlayed with sporadic moments of color and light, all topped with a romantic script emphasizing lyrical moments. Again, it’s a perfect juxtaposition, romantic versus indifferent, organic versus synthesized.

As his first release since the 2023 album, i care so much that i don’t care at all, “huh” is a captivating step into what’s next for glaive. And that first step seems to be turning into a running spring, with glaive slated to release "Even When The Sun is Dead" this Friday, February 2.
