Little Monarch Brings a Groovy New Energy to "Same Old"

What better visual stage for a song about breaking toxic cycles and rejuvenating your inner energy than a bad-ass senior dance class? Little Monarch sees her future in the new music video for “Same Old,” another dynamic track that blends retro sounds with modern production. With the help of a fortune teller, we’re transported within the walls of a safe space where women are free to let loose from the stress of life and outside expectations.

Enhanced by warm light shining in through the windows, Little Monarch finds her groove alongside a dance class of confident senior women who are hitting every step with ease. Amongst them are notable performers such as Conni Marie Brazleton (Tiny Beautiful Things, This Is Us), Kit Smythe (Gilligan's Island), and Aixa Clemente (The Ring, NCIS), and Little Monarch’s own mother, Holly Kalmenson. As each woman gets her solo moment, the rising artist sings into the ballet studio mirror, “Keep fucking with the same old / you really got it let it go.” It’s a powerful moment for women, of all ages, to witness those who have experienced so many stages of life embrace their lives to the fullest.

Little Monarch, the moniker of Casey Kalmenson, recently wrapped on Gracie Abrams’ 'Good Riddance Tour' and multiple opening performances for Taylor Swift’s 'Eras' stadium tour. Her artist project blends genres new and old, birthing a soundscape of influences that encapsulate intricate, universal feelings. “Same Old” invokes an effortlessly serene sense of self, starting with echoey vocals that immediately draw you into a funky universe. The track ends with the stripped-down snapping of the fingers and a classic piano, embracing the vintage feel that Little Monarch executes so perfectly.

The music video ends with Little Monarhc finishing her performance and walking the iconic streets of LA. This unique visual story for “Same Old” is not only perfect for the lyrical content but personal to the artist herself. We can’t wait to see what’s next for this special artist and her generation-spanning take on music.
