There is something familiar yet new, aching yet beautiful about Albin Lee Meldau’s music. The Swedish singer-songwriter was raised by a jazz vocalist mother and British punk father, the unique combination contributing to a vaguely old-school sound backing his modern, indie-pop music. Since the release of his debut EP, Lovers, in 2016, Meldau has garnered over 200,000 monthly Spotify listeners and nearly 25 million streams. His most recent EP, Bloodshot, is a true testament to his arresting voice and ability to completely captivate listeners through the emotion he delivers. The 28-year-old was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2017 Grammis (Swedish Grammy Awards) and won the 2016 Anchor Award as the best emerging talent. Meldau’s lyrics often touch on dark subjects that are deeply profound, as seen in his hit songs “Lou Lou” and “Bloodshot.” The singer’s music ultimately comes from the heart, delivering stories that are told with perfect clarity through raw instrumentation and Meldau’s gravelly, soulful voice.
