Hugo Ronen Makes a Name For Himself in Debut EP 'The Sol Demos'

image

Multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer Hugo Ronen is making radio-ready music from his own bedroom. The New York native combines pop, alternative, and hip-hop similar to his genre-spanning cohorts, but his emotive, introspective songwriting set him apart from his contemporaries. Ronen's debut EP,  The Sol Demos,  is the perfect introduction to what makes the newcomer so magnetic.

The self-produced opening track, "Things End As They Begin," immediately pulls you in. "I'm losing it all / my mind, my keys, my light is always gone," sings Ronen offering  an instantly infectious hook and a glimpse at  Ronen's distinct vocal range.

The following tracks  "Badside" and  "Villain" maintain that sublime quality while still finding the space to showcase Ronen's incredible versatility. The hook to "Badside" bounces around in your head long after first listen and  "Villain" shows a darker side to the complex artist. The project closes with a live re-imagining of  "Things End As They Begin." The instrumental is far more skeletal, giving Ronen space for his vocal performance to shine.

The Sol Demos  feel like the start of something bigger coming for Hugo Ronen. While only four songs long, The Sol Demos  leaves one anticipating which direction the multi-talented artist will go next.
