ICYMI: Worlds Collide Harmoniously as Ravyn Lenae Releases the Steve Lacy-Produced ‘Crush’ EP

After an impressive tour with Ones to Watch alumna, SZA, Ravyn Lenae wasted no time in returning to the studio with fellow teen prodigy Steve Lacy. The new Crush EP blossoms with irremovable essence of the soft, sultry Lenae that fans know and love – but the five-track project takes a bold step forward under Steve Lacy’s creative direction as executive producer.

Three years after her debut Moon Shoes EP, we witness Ravyn Lenae’s growth as both an artist and a lover. The new project’s lead single, “Sticky,” immediately spotlights Lenae’s refined lyricism and melodies while exploring her vulnerability as a partner. In this track, the young Chicago songstress is “glued into a relationship that’s falling apart” but makes it sound oddly enjoyable over Steve Lacy’s raw & creamy chord progressions. In addition to his production, Lacy also provides his vocal talents on two different tracks of the EP, “Computer Love” and “4 Leaf Clover.” The entire collection makes us wonder why the two didn’t get together sooner.

With only 16 total minutes of music, Ravyn Lenae’s Crush EP showed us exactly why she’s constantly listed as one of the most promising acts of 2018. Along with her fellow Ones to Watch companion, Steve Lacy, the two are primed for a big year and show promise to shake up the musical landscape along their way.
