PREMIERE: Promises Ltd. Bridges Dream Pop and Dance in the Ironically-Titled “Dreams”

Majestic Casual is no novice when it comes to unearthing some of the most promising voices in the world of dance music and beyond, and their marked trend continues with electronic-leaning, dream pop duo Promises Ltd. Jeremy Malvin, popularly known as Chrome Sparks, and Charlie Brand of Miniature Tigers, came together as Promises Ltd. in 2016 with the release of their impressive debut EP, the self-titled Promises Ltd. Now, the duo is back with the all too ironically-titled “Dreams.”

To say “Dreams” is an absolute sonic dream is a fun bit of wordplay, and by all accounts it most certainly is, but doing so undercuts the raw message and pure beauty on display here. Throughout “Dreams,” Promises Ltd. continually prove themselves as masters of their craft, creating an ever-evolving kaleidoscope of love, loss, and self. Brand’s melancholic and longing vocals strike right at the heart without ever sacrificing his innate gift for employing clever bouts of lyricism to craft an indelible hook. While Malvin’s varied instrumentation, including an angelic string section in the latter half of the song, and synth-heavy production combine to elevate the entirety of “Dreams” to heavenly heights.

Charlie Brand of Promises Ltd. was kind enough to share a few words with us on the underlying meaning behind “Dreams,”

“’Dreams’ is about losing yourself in a relationship that’s crumbling. Trying to reconcile who you were with who you are now.”

With “Dreams,” Promises Ltd. has done something well worth praise. For some odd four minutes, Promises Ltd. entrances the listener in a bounty of space-aged dream pop infused with a dance-minded edge. It’s the rare fusion of underground dance and alternative that come together exquisitely to bring forth an entirely new sound unto itself. “Dreams” is a track that you cannot help but lose yourself in.
