The city of Calgary, in the wonderful nation of Canada, is home to many attractions; its gorgeous skyline and iconic architecture annually reel in tourists of all kinds. The city is also currently home to a young girl with the star power to match the skyline she leaves behind. Tate McRae is a sixteen-year-old that has as many talents as most do fingers. She is an accomplished singer, songwriter, dancer, and even a bit of a world traveler.

Growing up, McRae found herself calling many places home. Ranging from Egypt to Thailand, it took quite some time to finally call Canada home. It is with this that the artist Tate McRae was truly able to begin her journey. By learning so much and growing so quickly, the world was constantly changing before her eyes. From country to country, McRae was able to harness her creativity and accredits this to her artistry, explaining, "I draw inspiration from everywhere I've gone to."

Before becoming a fulltime songstress, McRae was fully emersed into the dance community. From age eight and onward, McRae competed in dance and even found herself gracing the stages of Ellen, So You Think You Can Dance, and The Teen Choice Awards. Ultimately, the spotlight is no problem for the emerging artist.

It was not until 2018 that McRae made her first venture into the unexplored field of music with the single, "One Day." Her debut single quickly picked up stream, signaling the start of this artist's rapid ascent and earning her comparisons to Billie Eilish, which may just be the best compliment you can get today. With  "One Day" currently sitting at a comfortable 50 million streams on Spotify alone and so much buzz filling the air, McRae brought her talents to RCA Records, home of BROCKHAMPTON, Childish Gambino, Miley Cyrus, and more.

All of this eventually brought forward the major-label debut for the 16-year-old. "Tear Myself Apart," which was written alongside none other than Eilish and her songwriting partner and brother FINNEAS, features haunting vocal harmonies, gentle piano chords, and a strong melody from McRae. Her vocals are controlled and soft, a gentle and pleasing sound to the ears that lulls you further and further into her enrapturing sonic meditation.

Not one to rest on the laurels of a few impressive singles, McRae soon returned with yet another spellbinding track. Openly touching upon themes of fragile and questionable relationships, "all my friends are fake" is arguably McRae's most candid and daring single to date. Wanting to see how far she could go with her songwriting, "all my friends are fake" arrived as a dark and hypnotic exploration of what the young artist has to offer.

With her streams showing no signs of slowing down and her music evolving with each release, McRae finds herself in the spotlight. From Canada to the world at large, the realm of pop belongs to her.
