New Zealand's Coolest Band - LEISURE's 4th studio album "Leisurevision" Out Now!

LEISURE announce 4th studio album "Leisurevision"

"We’re so grateful to our ever-growing LEISURE family around the world, the connections you’ve made and the adventures you’ve taken our music on. Our last album "Sunsetter" was released in the height of our lockdowns and we greatly missed being able to celebrate with you. So we are absolutely hyped to announce our 4th studio album "Leisurevision". This album navigates the human experience, and all the hope, joy, chaos and euphoria it entails. Encapsulated by the colour Green - symbolic of growth, renewal, and rebirth - a calming and harmonious colour, representing balance, peace and tranquillity.  "Leisurevision" sees the world through that lens, content and curious, we’re excited for you to experience it, together."

The album takes inspiration from various eras — from the smoothness of seventies Blue-eyed-Soul to the romantic energy of early eighties post-disco, locking in with mid-nineties hip-hop drum programming and glued down with what has become somewhat of a signature lush LEISURE guitar sound heard across their discography.

Beginning with sun-drenched single "Always" the collective first pay homage to their loved ones before Leisurevision dives into their collective human experience and all the hope, joy, chaos and euphoria it entails.

The warm and cosy "All The Good Times Never Die" holds close the positive moments in life, pushing them to the forefront of the memory bank for strength to hold on.

"Above Me" yearns for hope and guidance, and the belief in something beyond ourselves while "Too Much" covers being overwhelmed by both the responsibilities and the ever accelerating pace of modern life.

"Mellow" is a sonic relaxant that plays at the idea of a paradise within your own confines, while the anthemic "Still Rolling" celebrates the feeling of knowing someone has your back no matter what situations you find yourself in.

"Flame" thematically strives to be the best version of oneself, playing around with delay effects and feedback automation where they coined the term Shroomzy. A term that has become a staple descriptor in the collective ever since.

While "Back In Love", the horn-infused cinematic crooner is a reminder that no matter what life throws at you, you can always find your way back.

HELLO LEISURE, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW ALBUM "LEISUREVISION", WE LOVE IT, BEEN JAMMING NON STOP! HOW'S YOUR SUMMER COMING ALONG ESPECIALLY WITH THE UPCOMING TOUR! WHAT "LEISURE" ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN UP TO?

Thanks! We are super excited for tour. For some of us it will be the first proper travel since the covid stuff (my self included); so we’re generally just looking forward to getting back out into the great big world. We’re getting around via tour bus so I’m especially excited to drive across the states and see some of the country. Close quarters though - we’ll see how that one goes.

WE JUST HAVE TO KNOW THE STORY BEHIND THE NAMING OF "LEISUREVISION", HOW DID IT COME ABOUT?

For a long time we realised that as a band we had been mostly reactive decisions. We wanted to shift that reactivity into proactivity and come together to consciously steer the ship. I think Leisurevision is the term that seemed to stick best.

WHICH TRACKS ON "LEISUREVISION" ARE YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITES AND WHY?

"Level" has to be a favourite. It’s super lush and gooey. "Rescue Me" is also up there. It feels like something we haven’t done before which is always exciting.

WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES YOUR MUSIC RELATABLE TO FANS, AND HOW HAS IT EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS?

I feel like Leisure is a band many people find on their own, and because of that maybe it becomes more special? We are quite happy operating at a certain pace and it just attracts like-minded/like-tempoed humans. It’s hard to say how the music has evolved as we’re never setting out to flip the switch or do our Kid A, it’s more just being shaped by life.

WHAT IS ONE TOPIC YOU WANT TO COVER IN YOUR MUSIC THAT YOU HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO EXPLORE YET?

Can’t really think of one. The lyrics are always inspired by the feeling of the music so it’s never a planned thing.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST EPIC AND MEMORABLE FAN EXPERIENCE?

We remember the post-Berlin show being very funny. One conversation we still chuckle at went something like: “I loved the show but it was too short” “Oh, ha, thanks!” “It was not a compliment”

ANY SECRET UPCOMING PROJECTS YOU CAN LET US IN ON?

;)

DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW ARTISTS ON YOUR ONES TO WATCH LIST?

Big fans of Jitwam over here. There’s a French electronic artist called Tell that We're really into at the moment. The English group Decius is doing exciting things too.

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU CAN OFFER TO ARTISTS WHO ARE JUST STARTING OUT?

Always surround yourself by people more experienced than yourself and make stuff that you want to listen to.

LASTLY, ANY MESSAGE FOR THE LESIURE FAM?

We love you, thanks for being cool, and we will see you soon x
