Loverground Pens a Message to His Higher Self With "How U Feel" [Q&A]

Loverground via London / Barcelona is back with a continuation of his vibey, dance-adjacent sound, a house track in all but tempo, R&B in all but construct, a track typical of his ever-evolving sound. To learn more about what was happening and what is about to happen, we reached out to Loverground to dig into his new single  "How U Feel" and learn more.

Ones to Watch: Who is Loverground?

Loverground: Loverground is a songwriter, a producer, a music lover, a vibe-seeker. I think of this project as safe ground for me to explore without boundaries. It’s honest music made with love.

What is "How U Feel" all about?

Although it sounds like it was written for a lover or a friend, it's actually about that innervoice we all have. Some call it higher self, some call it intuition. It's about connecting with your true self and surrendering to it. I start off the track enumerating a lot of things I'm grateful for... It's funny because it can actually be interpreted in two ways, one being myself attempting to connect with my intuition ("calling one last time, checking on you''), the other being a message from my higher self ("things always fall into place, nothing to worry about'').

Love the vibes on the track, how'd you setup the composition?

Thank you! The way the track evolves is pretty similar to the way I wrote it. I first came up with the lead and built it from there. I wanted a rapper on it originally, but was stuck in quarantine and decided to record it myself. I can't really rap so I decided to go for the high pitched vocal.

Any collaborator or cowriters?

Nope! I do it all myself :)

This is a very layered track, but flows effortlessly. Do you feel this is an evolution in your sound?

Yes, definitely. I want to step away from the "lo-fi house'' producer label and try some other stuff. I feel like I have evolved as songwriter and producer but there's still a lot of progress to be made!

Can we expect more of this style on your upcoming EP My Love is True?

You can definitely expect a similar sound although I would say the tracks on the EP are pretty different style-wise. I really tried to challenge myself and explore different genres, but all the tracks are glued together by my own sound/production style.

Besides this excellent single and the soon to be released EP, what else should we be on the lookout for?

Well, I'm already working on new music and collaborating with other artists. I want to keep the momentum and release more music this year. My priority after the EP will be to play live shows so hopefully see you soon in a city near you :)

What’s inspiring you right now outside of music?

Nadal winning his 21st grand slam. Aside from the athletic feat, it's the mentality that is really inspiring for me. Talent often steals the show but I think resilience and hard work is where it's at.

Spring is nearly upon us, what does that mean for you creatively?

Spring is always a great time creatively. I often describe my sound as "sunset music," I imagine it being played out loud in open spaces. The longer days and first rays of sunlights always push me to write new stuff to be played out in the sun.

Who are your Ones to Watch?

I have a lot of them, bb sway is one of my go to (I actually have a track with her on this EP that I can't wait to release). My friends from ABC Dialect are also doing some great work. There are also a lot of up and coming producers that I reeeeally rate: Henrik Villard, Aguava, Geneva, Peter Anderson just to name a few.
