Niki Demar Channels the Early 2000's Disney Channel Star Era With "Pregame"

For newcomer Niki Demar, making music has turned from a personal passion to an exciting reality. In her new single, “Pregame,” Demar spreads her wings and exudes a beautiful sense of confidence, honesty, and simply put: badassery. As a follow-up to her previous 2022 singles “When My High Wears Off” and “9 Lives,” Demar continues to explore her unhealthy coping mechanisms while simultaneously sounding stronger than ever.

"Pregame" starts abruptly, immediately grabbing the listener’s attention with Demar’s clear vocals cementing her as a force to be reckoned with. We start with a stripped-back chorus, which features an addicting hook that sets the scene for a party planned for the purpose of avoidance. The story is of someone struggling in their day-to-day life, therefore distracting themselves by partying with friends. It’s a common theme explored in music, but “Pregame” brings an exciting new energy to the table. The lyrics are sharp and the production is elevated, but most importantly the confidence exuding through each lyric is palpable. Demar sings, “I need some liquor in my veins before I sever” with a sense of self-awareness that makes the track amusing and relatable.

Demar has clearly taken notes from some of her biggest inspirations, such as Demi Lovato, when it comes to the sonics of “Pregame.” The track sounds like it could easily be from the early 2000’s Disney Channel star era, tapping into familiar pop-rock sounds that Demar and so many of her fans hold dear to their hearts. The realistic adult themes discussed in the lyrics bring maturity to the track, but overall it’s made for the pure fun of singing along and rocking out.

“Pregame” brings Demar to a new level of artistry and on a path to becoming a certified hitmaker. The hook is addicting, leaving listeners humming the tune and inclined to press play over and over. As Demar continues to solidify herself as an independent musician on top of her many accolades as a YouTuber, it seems there's no stopping this rising star.
