Slayyyter Is the Star of the Party in 'Starfucker'

Slayyyter's sophomore album STARFUCKER is a damn masterpiece. The twelve-track collection is an unapologetically extravagant body of work that takes listeners on a tantalizing journey through themes of fame, desire, and sexuality through a reinvigorated femme fatale lens and aesthetic.

“This album means the world to me. I have carefully crafted this era for 3 years now and I think it perfectly captures who I am and who I have evolved into as an artist," shares Slayyyter. "It's sexy, it's pop, it's provocative and feels like my love letter to Hollywood and glamour. I am so proud of it and hope people enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.”

"I Love Hollywood!" is an opener that grips you with its dripping synths, powerful kick drums, and transcendent techno beats. Biting lyrics pick apart the toxic underbelly of the West Coast party scene, famously ruled by drugs, delusional social currency, and oppressive body image expectations. The dark and seductive anthem is followed by the sweet and sticky "Miss Belladonna." The previously released effort is thick with brooding and sleek instrumentation, culminating into a chorus that oozes with hedonism as Slayyyter laments that "he lives for love and I live for drama."

"Plastic" is a bold, anthemic track that unapologetically celebrates self-confidence through cosmetic enhancements. Paying tribute to the beauty supplied by a doctor's needle, a provocative chorus charges forward with lines like "Brand new tits / Give me a little injection / My doctor made me it look like this / And I can't starin' at my own reflection," oozing with pride. She captivates listeners as the song dives into the intrigue surrounding the singer's transformed appearance, while the bridge highlights empowerment. It's a compelling exploration of self-esteem, image enhancement, glamour in today's society, and saying fuck you to anyone who passes judgment.

The album shifts gear hard on the penultimate "Tear Me Open." Winding the energy down with its foreboding tonal departure, Slayyyter confesses that she wants to be with her lover forever, regardless of the pain that could bring. Heartstring-pulling lines like "Kissin me in your car / I feel weak, get me out of my mind," and "I get scared of the things you could do to my heart" see her take her walls down as she gives herself over to the thrumming bass lines, moody guitar riffs, and subdued percussion patterns that weave in and out of her pleads to be torn open.

The album's closer "Out Of Time" sees the singer share her story in the third person, revealing that "She hates herself / But if they all love her then she doesn't mind." Described by Slayyyter as "a song for stars, ones who are rising and ones who are fading away," it's a powerful finale that solidifies her commanding presence. This song radiates with undeniable LA star power, portraying Slayyyter as the music scene's ultimate party girl. She's the magnetic center of attention in this anthem, with everyone yearning to fall into her gravity and bask in her glow. But amid the glittering chaos of fame, Slayyyter stands firm that she's not here for superficial gimmicks but for the raw, unadulterated fame and power.

With STARFUCKER, Slayyyter cements herself as a fearless force in the world of pop music and a trailblazer in her craft. With its thirty-five-minute run time, she wastes not a second of her time with a genuinely unskippable album that demands our attention and begs us all to dance and let ourselves go.
