After cueing us into her appreciation for “DIRT,” Zoe Ko is circling back to let us know how much she loves to “EAT” in a new badass track. Considered the missing piece of a double single moment, “EAT” functions as side A while “DIRT” is side B, giving fans a full vision with two complimentary stories. Hailing from NYC and bringing filth wherever she goes, this young singer-songwriter won’t stop putting out bops, and “EAT” is just the latest offering from her repertoire.

The most notable aspect of Ko’s music is its energy, which is never toned down for comfort and always taken to another level. “EAT” is another explosion of campy fun, celebrating blissful confidence and feeling delicious in your own skin. The track begins with a muted electric guitar generating a force that immediately captures your attention, accompanied by Zoe’s flirty adlibs from the bat. She sings about waking up from a night out knowing how hard she ate, not just by looking good on the outside but by the internal self-love that shines through. She sings as if she’s chatting with her best friends, proclaiming that no matter how little of the night they can actually remember, there’s one thing they’re all certain of: that they ate and left no crumbs.

In addition to Ko’s sharp spoken word delivery on this track, she shows off her vocal chops in unique ways. In the pre-chorus, she drags out her words with a mesmerizing gravelly vocal that provides a complimentary edge to the “EAT” message. The second verse (or course in this case) is a standout moment where we hear the proud New Yorker try on a cheeky British accent that elevates the whole vibe of the song and makes for a blast to sing along to. In this newfound cadence, Ko’s carefree attitude peaks as she declares having no hesitation to “drop men like accessories.” It’s clear that no one’s opinion is stopping this pop star's radical celebration of self. On what inspired the track, Zoe announces that “Not giving a single f*ck about what others think is in. EATING is in.”

Infusing beloved sounds of the past with her own modern female perspective is what makes “EAT” so successful. It’s clear Ko has not only studied the greatness of icons like Gwen Stefani and Ke$ha, but walks in their footsteps in both talent and attitude. Laced with food metaphors and an addictive sassy mindset, “EAT” paired with its sister track “DIRT,” make for a full-course meal. We can’t wait to see what Zoe Ko is planning on serving up next.
