Minnesota-natives, Hippo Campus, create catchy indie pop-rock, a sound evocative of Vampire Weekend. Jake Luppen (guitar, lead vocals), Nathan Stocker (guitar), Zach Sutton (bass), and Whistler Allen (drums)--who more commonly go by the names Turntan, Stitches, Espo and Beans, respectively--met while attending performing arts high school, and in the summer of 2013, they became Hippo Campus.
Since forming, Hippo Campus’ rapid ascent has seen them become an undeniable breakthrough act. The band landed a slot at SXSW and made their TV debut on Conan ahead of their 2014 debut EP, Bashful Creatures. The six-track EP, revolves around the pleasures and pains of teen angst, and their growth into adulthood. The following year saw them ink a deal with Universal Music and release their second EP, South.
Their singles, “Suicide Saturday” and “South” have amassed millions of plays on Spotify and receive regular rotation on radio both in the U.S. and the UK. On March of 2017, Hippo Campus released their long-awaited full-length debut album, Landmark which has so far been featured on Apple’s A-List Alternative, BBC Radio 1 and NPR, among many others. The record marks a true coming of age for the band, exploring universal concepts of love and loss, hope and self-doubt. Now, Hippo Campus has treated us to their latest incredible album, Bambi, which was released in 2018.
