Buoyed by the smashing success of his recent trio of EPs – The Monologue, The Paradox and The Boy Who Cried Freedom – Nigerian-born British singer-songwriter Jacob Banks releases his eagerly awaited full album debut, Village, November 2 on Interscope. The 14-track disc is a sprawling, deeply immersive experience on which Banks’ throaty, expressive baritone weaves its way through a mesmerizing mix of musical styles and textures. The album features lead single “Be Good To Me” ft. Seinabo Sey, which was highlighted on Spotify’s New Music Friday as well as The New York Times’ “The Playlist” as one of the best new tracks upon release.
Jacob’s powerful vocals and genre-bending style quickly received widespread praise everywhere from Billboard, The FADER, Complex, Interview, PAPER and NYLON, with TIME Magazine declaring, “prepare to be floored by Jacob Banks, a rising Nigerian-born British star whose soulful voice and incisive production will get under your skin from the first listen.” Jacob recently made his U.S. television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers performing critically-acclaimed single “Unknown (To You),” which has amassed over 12 million streams.
In late 2018, Jacob will embark on the Village tour marking his second worldwide headlining tour following last year’s sold out Into The Wild tour. Having supported the likes of Alicia Keys, Sam Smith and Emilie Sandé, Jacob is no stranger to performing. His live shows have captivated audiences around the world, with The Austin Chronicle proclaiming the “Londoner’s voice has ‘next big thing’ written all over it,” and LA Weekly asserting "whether he’s singing or songwriting, U.K.-based, Nigeria-born artist Jacob Banks lets his art speak for itself, proving he’s a force to reckon with in the music game.” Earlier this year, Jacob made his Coachella debut and performed at Sasquatch, BottleRock, and Shaky Knees, Afropunk and North Coast Music Festival, in addition to a series of international dates. Jacob has previously played major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Firefly and The Meadows, among others, with The New York Times naming Jacob one of “12 Notable Acts” at SXSW.
