Electronic / Experimental / R&B
Kelela is a singer-songwriter from DC who later ventured to Los Angeles, singing jazz in cafes by day and progressive rock by night. Her move to LA brought with it a slew of helpful resources, connecting her to the electronic duo, Teengirl Fantasy and later London-based label Night Slugs. It was there that she further embellished her sound, drawing influences from the UK dance scene of R&B, grime, and house styles. Her beautiful voice flows well over the alternative r&b and dance records that she makes. Experimental by nature, Kelela’s music consistently blurs genre lines in such a way that you never know what to expect. Her live show is sensual and powerful and not to be missed.
