Born in Gibraltar and growing up in government-housing projects in the seaside town of Margate, England; Leon Else started writing songs at age 12 and self-recording on a cassette player in his bedroom. With the little money he’d saved from work, Leon put himself through dance classes with aspirations of auditioning for England’s top performing-arts academies. Within a few years he’d landed supported roles in Nine (the 2009 film starring Daniel Day- Lewis and Nicole Kidman), Kenneth MacMillan’s ballet Winter Dreams and musicals including “Sinatra” and “Oklahoma!”, but found himself underwhelmed.

Following a succession of song releases online, the backing of Radio 1’s BBC Introducing system in the UK, and a host of front row invites from the fashion world, Leon caught the attention of Interscope Geffen A&M President of A&R Aaron Bay-Schuck and was signed to Interscope Records to work on his full-length debut in Los Angeles. After a year in the studio, Leon is primed to make his album debut with “Black Car.” Soulful and sophisticated, edgy and urgent, “Black Car” reveals Leon’s artistic complexity and vast musical palette (among his inspirations: David Bowie, Prince, Queen, Elvis Presley, the 80s). Leon has worked to infuse his album with the same sense of emotional volatility that’s long fueled his songwriting. Else returned with the soulful and deeply personal dance-pop single "What I Won't Do" in early 2017.
