Rex Orange County burst onto the mainstream stage when he popped up twice on Tyler, the Creator's Grammy-nominated Flower Boy, continuing the recent collision of the hip-hop world and that of "anti-pop." In late April 2017 he released his second studio album Apricot Princess, succeeding with blunt, honest songwriting paired with his own colorful production. Hailing from England, the "Orange County" actually stems from a nickname given to him by his teacher, rather than the coastal region adjacent to Los Angeles. With a library well-suited for summer sunshine, however, it's no surprise that his music has taken hold in Southern California as well as abroad, showing a musician with the potential to be an international star. His new album, Pony hears him grappling with fame and loss in a way that only Rex Orange County can.
