Nothing But Thieves
Nothing But Thieves is an English five-man alternative rock band from Southend-on-Sea in Essex, England, who went on a Ones To Watch-presented tour in 2016. Formed in 2012 and signed to RCA Records in 2014, the band features Conor Mason on vocals, Joe Langridge-Brown on guitar, Dominic Craik on guitar and keyboards, James Price on drums, and Philip Blake on bass guitar. Their debut self-titled album featuring the hit single “Trip Switch” topped UK and vinyl charts. Their sophomore album, Broken Machine, was released in 2017 and peaked at number two on the UK charts. In late 2018, they released their What Did You Think When You Made Me This Way? EP. The focus track of this EP is "Forever & Ever More," a guitar-heavy rock anthem with a mind bending music video filled with swimming pools, nightclubs, and most importantly…vampires.
Doncaster native YUNGBLUD cites Arctic Monkeys as one of his inspirations, alongside other rock bands like The Clash and N.W.A. His energetic and empowering songs, easily identifiable by his distinctly British accent and razor-sharp lyricism, remind us of a Favourite Worst Nightmare era Alex Turner. While he channels his outrage about the state of the world into his songs, his ultimate mission is to empower and uplift rather than divide. YUNGBLUD recently visited our New York headquarters, where he blessed us with a stripped-down rendition of his single, "California."
Big Thief is a Brooklyn based indie-rock outfit consisting of Adrianne Lenker on guitar and vocals, Buck Meek on guitar, Max Oleartchik on bass, and James Krivchenia on drums. Their sound is a lot more mellow than the other bands in this list, but it just goes to show the wide range of stylistic choices that make indie-rock great. Their popular singles "Paul" and "Masterpiece" are reminiscent of the ballads of the Arctic Monkeys' Suck It And See era.
If you're a fan of Arctic Monkeys, chances are you're familiar with Mini Mansions. The LA-based indie pop and glam rock trio consists of Zach Dawes, Tyler Parkford, and Michael Shuman. Mini Mansions is currently at their prime, having released their latest EP, Works Every Time, an amalgamation of love-torn lyrics, catchy guitar chords, and tangible emotions. The band is close friends with Arctic Monkeys, having supported them on their 2018 North American tour and collaborating with Alex Turner on the single "Vertigo."
We Are Scientists
We Are Scientists is indie music's best-kept secret. While having a modest and dedicated fanbase in America, the NYC-based rock band was a big hit in the UK, where they gained praise for their sound paralleling that of bands like Interpol, The Killers, and Franz Ferdinand. The duo, comprising guitarist and vocalist Keith Murray and bass guitarist Chris Cain, came out with their newest album, Megaplex, in April 2018. "No Wait at Five Leaves" is the most recent single off of the album and incorporates polished synth into an atmospheric sound lined with a post-punk edge.

The band was formed in 2015 and consists of Jake (singer/guitarist), Alex (guitarist), Jamie (bass) and Brian (drums). The band already has a variety of achievements under their belts, including performing in Reading and Leeds before their one-year anniversary and joining several bands, including Nothing But Thieves, on sold out UK tours.
