Former Jack’s Mannequin frontman Andrew McMahon, who has been working on new music leading up to his tour with Gavin DeGraw and Matt Nathanson, played a solo show last night at the Viper Room, a sure sign of being back on the new music radar. On last year’s EP, The Pop Underground, the singer’s cheeky brand of West Coast piano pop gave a friendly nod towards electro-pop trends of late in its four-song offering. Whatever it is, we can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve. If nothing else, last night’s show proved McMahon is a dedicated frontman at heart who knows how to indulge his fans, easily delivering bathroom humor and rambling stories to the chagrin of audience members. His setlist reached far back to his punk-rock roots, indulging in tunes from his former band, Something Corporate, that earned him a near cult-like following in the early 2000’s.
Stay tuned on more from McMahon and in the meantime, see a clip from last night’s show.
