Norwegian singer Astrid Smeplass has had a wild past few years. After placing 5th in Norway’s version of Pop Idol at just 16 years old, she quickly started releasing music under Astrid S. with Universal Music Group. Her first single, “2AM,” was released in the U.S. in 2015 and has been streamed over 10 million times on Spotify since.
Astrid’s decision to quit high school to focus on her music career at the age of 17 definitely showed some positive results. In 2016, she was invited to tour with Troye Sivan, released a self-titled EP, and has since collaborated with artists like Shawn Mendes, Matoma and even provided backup vocals to a track on Katy Perry’s newest album, Witness.
Astrid’s newest release, Party’s Over, is full of dance anthems worthy of Ellie Goulding and Zara Larsson comparisons, with an electric edge that showcases her true talent: delivering chart-worthy pop music without sacrificing songwriting or vocal ability. The EP, released on June 30, has already racked up nearly 40 million streams on Spotify alone.
The lead single, “Breathe,” was co-written by Astrid herself and was produced with the help of Oscar Holter - a Hollywood heavyweight who has worked with Hailee Steinfeld, Carly Rae Jepsen, DNCE and a handful of other rising pop artists.
Astrid S. will be touring around the world this fall to support her new music: see her dates below:
