Our favorite music taps into the farthest corners of our minds and emotions, often targeting feelings and thoughts we cannot quite name or put our finger on. Freudian, R&B artist Daniel Caesar’s debut album, is truly a fitting name for the sensual and soulful album. The album connects seamlessly with both concrete and subconscious feelings we hold about love.

Following the success of his latest single, “Japanese Denim,” Freudian stays true to Caesar’s signature soulful sound. The 10-track album opens with Caesar’s hit single, “Get You,” featuring Kali Uchis and contains previously released singles “Blessed” and “We Find Love.” It features several other prominent artists such as H.E.R., Syd of the Internet, and Charlotte Day Wilson.

Tracks like “Take Me Away” have a very similar mellow sound to “Get You” with a crooning electric guitar backed by the prominent rhythm of the bass, kick, and snare. The album speaks of both love and heartbreak, lyrics that are coupled perfectly with sentimental and emotional instrumentals.

Hailing from Toronto, Caesar entered the spotlight with the release of his EP Praise Break in 2014, followed by Pilgrim’s Paradise in 2015. The forthcoming album continued building anticipation as “Get You” accumulated nearly 30 million streams on Spotify.

Fans can also keep an eye out for Caesar’s episode on Apple Music’s Up Next, a monthly documentary series highlighting rising artists. Caesar also announced a North American tour of Freudian starting in September. Be sure to act fast—many venues are already sold out. All dates below:
