In this day and age, streaming platforms like Spotify and SoundCloud have essentially superseded traditional roles of the record label A&R. Thus, as we increasingly discover artists through curated playlists and social media newsfeeds, the first few seconds of a song become monumentally critical in determining its fate.

Orange-county based trio ARMORS hits that nail on the head with “Genesis,” a song that captivates you within moments and only gets better as it builds up to the passionate chorus. Today, we’re proud to present your first listen of Night Riots’ remix of “Genesis,” a royal treatment that officially hooks us in for the long haul.

The original “Genesis” was unveiled in September 2016, providing a clear illustration of ARMORS’ sonic strengths: artfully spellbinding vocals by Olen Kittelsen matched with lush, alternative-leaning soundscapes courtesy of guitarist Kody Buxton and synth/keys Sam Beresford. The track’s dark lyrics send us into a retroactive emotional daze, while layered and explosive breakdowns get our heads bobbing and feet moving all the way through. In response to the song’s deeper meaning, Buxton shared,

“‘Genesis’ portrays the loss of a long-time significant other, under very surprising circumstances, and the emotional trials of being left with nothing and discovering how truly insignificant you are in the world.”

With Night Riots’ signature flair incorporated into “Genesis,” the tune becomes even more dance floor ready. The Los Angeles-based quintet ups the energy with with a bass-infused backbone, dynamic synths, and an all-embracing anthemic rock-meets-electronic feeling. All in all, Night Riots’ edition of “Genesis” is a win for all parties involved, and it shall remain on repeat in our foreseeable future.

The track is officially out tomorrow, March 31, but in the meantime, your exclusive stream is below.
