Multi-layered, yet refined, performance soundscapes. Lush, yet tender, vocal prowess. Familiar, yet inventive, instrumental underpinnings. Those are just a few of the adjectives we could use to describe FYOHNA, the Los Angeles-based duo who is making their debut today with "Ghost Heart."
FYOHNA have chosen to take a less-than-conventional route to introducing themselves to the music world. After unveiling two live performance and music videos that have picked up considerable steam over the last several months, they chose to hold off on releasing anything on SoundCloud or Spotify until now. This approach has proven fruitful as anticipation has multiplied exponentially, and we, as fans, are honored to present the official premiere "Ghost Heart" today.
Opening with tribal-reminiscent thumping that leads into crescendos of expansive percussion and piano melodies courtesy of producer/multi-instrumentalist Elliot Glasser, Katarina Gleicher soothingly sings of a relationship void of the love it once had. She expanded on the meaning behind her lyrics,
“'Ghost Heart' is about being with someone long after knowing it's over, about your heart being so finished that it feels dead. It sounds pretty tragic, but it’s also about liberation.
There is freedom in letting yourself be a little broken and unapologetically owning your pain."
FYOHNA's debut EP is set for an April 28 release. In the meantime, you can catch them at the two live dates below (most west coast dates to be announced!) and enjoy "Ghost Heart" below.
