As residents of sunny Los Angeles, most of us have grown accustomed to spending absurd amounts of precious time in the car. As we drive (or Uber) from point A to point B, with variable levels of traffic in between, the soundtrack to our travels becomes increasingly important. Enter Private Island–the Southern California six-piece whose R&B-tinged indie rock tunes are tailored to relax, uplift, and stimulate all at once. Private Island's upcoming album is quite appropriately titled Night Drive, and we've got your first listen of the latest featured track: "Crime."
"Crime" opens with a slightly menacing rhythmic crescendo that leads smoothly into sweeping synths and a sparse underlying bassline. Depending on the mood and environment in which it is played, this track can deemed funky R&B just as easily as it can fit in the indie dance and alternative rock categories–with one common thread from start to finish: an irresistible groove that'll keep your head bobbing and hips shaking. The band shared,
“'Crime' isn't a new song for us, actually it's the first one we wrote that took on this new direction and sound heard in the two singles from our new album 'Night Drive'. But we've kept it in our back pocket and are really excited to finally share.”
