LA-based electronic singer-songwriter Kauf is known for his self-produced, lush sonic style and intensely striking lyrics–crafting music perfect for a pensive night in, or even to dance along to, with his “slowed-down disco” vibes. Directed by Thomas Taugher, the new, mesmerizing music video for Kauf’s “Limestone” premieres today on Ones To Watch. Be the first to experience the stunning visuals below:

Featuring his drummer, Joseph August, and musician friend, Maiah Manser, in the “Limestone” music video we watch the actors embrace, contrasted against lyrics that reveal misgivings about a relationship. Repetition of lines like, “We never fight,” and, “Tongues tied in the limestone,” help bring the song’s meaning to the surface. Interspersed with alternating dreamy shots of the couple and close-ups of Kauf’s deep and steady gaze as he sings, visual projections float beautifully along with the track’s syncopated electronic embellishments. Kauf explains the idea behind the visuals:

“The concept for the video was fairly simple - we wanted the main romantic couple to be very still for most of the shots, while we projected more turbulent, organic imagery over them to reflect their internal states. The wardrobe for them was chosen to be very minimal and intimate. It is mostly shot in black and white, but halfway through there are bursts of color to give the relationship some sense of persisting vitality.

‘Limestone’ is basically the ballad of the album, so I thought it was appropriate to sing directly to the viewer and try to make the performance more vulnerable than anything I’ve done before. And since the track is about not being fully honest in a relationship, it felt like I was confronting that head on, in some way.”

“Limestone” is one of a string of successful singles from Kauf’s debut full-length album, Regrowth. The LP was only released last month in mid-October, but had built up plenty of anticipation thanks to its six singles that had been steadily dropping since 2016. Hype Machine saw each single chart, with “Through The Yard” and “A Ruin” reaching number one. The electronic-oriented artist single-handedly wrote, sang, produced, and mixed each track on Regrowth.

Inspired by his experience moving across the country from suburban, southern Florida to Los Angeles, the nine-track project is an extension of the self-realizations and awareness Kauf gained by reflecting back on family, independence, and romantic relationships. Magnetic Magazine premiered Regrowth and also shared an intimate track-by-track breakdown from the artist about the meaning of each song.

Cuts from the album have been so well-received that many already have undergone several remixes by exceptional producers within the electronic community. The latest remix of “Limestone” was produced by BAILE. Kauf revealed to fans on social media that this rework can serve as a preview of surprise new original music the pair have been working on and will release in the coming year.

Bask in the dazzling new “Limestone” music video, then make sure to indulge in Kauf’s full debut album. A vinyl copy of Regrowth is also available for purchase on Bandcamp.
