ALMA's "Cowboy" is a declaration to being raw and free. The single comes at a pinnacle point in the pop virtuoso's life. ALMA's debut album is set to release in 2019, and "Cowboy" is the first single to exemplify the newfound boldness and daring voice that she has been working hard to perfect. "Cowboy" follows her critically acclaimed EP Dye My Hair.
To date, ALMA has garnered 350 million Spotify streams and topped iTunes charts around the world. She is the proud owner of two EMMA awards (Finland's equivalent to the Grammys) and an MTV EMA award, but to her, those flash awards mean nothing if she's not making music her way with people she likes. With momentum continuing to build, ALMA finds a way to deliver us the realist piece of her yet.
ALMA's talents as a songwriter are revealed on "Cowboy," as she presents an honest and brave perspective on feeling small even amongst success. ALMA recruited the help of Los Angeles heavyweights Justin Tranter (Justin Bieber, Gwen Stefani), Sarah Hudson (Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Halsey) and Bloodpop (HAIM, Grimes) to help produce and write the track and give it that right amount of vulnerability and freshness. "Cowboy" is the most personal song she's ever created.
ALMA describes what it was like to open up and embrace her true identity.
"When I first left my hometown to write in LA I felt scared and small - like the world was way too big for me. It took me a long time to work out who I was and what I wanted to say. I was afraid to give away anything personal at first (us Finnish people are naturally very reserved) so it took a long time for me to understand my true identity and start getting it into my songs. So it helped to create an alter ego - to be a 'Cowboy.'"
And she is ready to bring her real fresh take to the pop world.
"I just want to be here and be real. 'Cowboy' is the first real piece of me I wanted to give away. There's lots more to come. I don't want to bullshit anyone or write empty pop bangers."
"Cowboy" is all about being unapologetically who you are. In a world where pop stars are worshiped among deities, ALMA takes her role to heart and wants to be as open and real with her fans as possible. ALMA is ready to lead the charge of a new generation of fierce, female pop geniuses who are ready to take over the industry.
