Goodness gracious. We thought we wouldn’t be hearing a mint Passion Pit song until their next album. Thankfully, Michael Angelakos had other plans. This week, Passion Pit posted a new song called “OctaHate” to SoundCloud by the unknown-until-now vocalist, Ryn Weaver. The track was produced by Passion Pit as well as Cashmere Cat, Benny Blanco, and pop hit-penning extraordinaire, Charli XCX.
Okay, let us now turn the attention from all those marquee names and focus on the true center of attention: Weaver. The LA/NY-based newcomer’s swerving vocal range bears resemblance to some of radio’s most beloved voices of late; hints of Charli XCX and Sia can be heard in Weaver’s voice as it tumbles and spirals out over the glittering, gilded backdrop. The track has racked up stamps of approval already from Jessie Ware, Paramore’s Hayley Williams, and How To Dress Well — not to mention pretty much any listener who gets in the track’s vicinity. Don’t make the mistake of heading into your weekend without hearing this song.
