For R&B songstress Tinashe (born Tinashe Kachingwe) the journey to the top has been an uphill climb with a swift summit. A former member of the pop group the Stunners, the 22-year-old first burst on the music scene as a solo artist to watch with her two mixtapes in 2012, which she wrote in her own bedroom. Since then, she’s gone on to work with some of hip-hop and R&B’s most prestigious songwriters and performers as collaborators; Dev Hynes, Drake, and Iggy Azalea, just to name a few. Then, last November, she saw her summer 2014 hit with Schoolboy Q “2 On” go platinum, shortly after releasing her highly-anticipated debut album, Aquarius.
We caught up with Tinashe at the kickoff her busy tour season to chat about what it feels like to be finally at the top of her game, and what means the most to her at this point. Watch our Last Five interview above!
