Just a couple months ago, Maggie Rogers was another student attending NYU Clive Davis Institute. Today, she's racked up over 2 million plays on SoundCloud/Spotify, is being played on the radio, and continues to grow at lightning speed.
It's a phenomenon we've deemed the "Pharrell Effect," supported with a clear showing of musical talent in her debut track, "Alaska." The young artist blew up after the video of Pharrell critiquing (or lack thereof) "Alaska" was posted on YouTube and the legend himself called her out on Twitter. In the video, Rogers explains how her love of hiking allowed her to appreciate organic electronic sounds, while her roots lie in folk songwriting. The two come together flawlessly to create a very distinct style, a uniqueness that Pharrell boldly compared to Wu Tang Clan.
Needless to say, Maggie Rogers has a very promising future ahead of her, and we can't wait to see what's next!
