Mark Evich Drizzles Soul Over Sizzling New Single, "Stuck"
Mark Evich is an up and coming artist with soul, pop, funk and hip-hop influence. Now based in New York City, the Russian-born singer and producer just released his sizzling single, "Stuck." He released two EPs in 2018, Immigrant Blues and Solitude Works Wonders, but his latest single demonstrates his remarkable ability to bring a modern touch to classic soul. Though he is just getting started, Evich has a clear vision for his music and breathes new life into pop music by infusing the depth of different genres.
"Stuck" begins with picked guitar jazz chords, which are quickly joined by synth. Evich's voice drizzles over the track like chocolate, singing the lyrics,
"I'm so stuck on you and you're stuck on me, we're stuck on us and you're stuck on me."
Falsetto notes paired with choppy descending lines over a sea of pulsing chords makes for a danceable chorus. Making upbeat music out of pain is a difficult task, and Evich does just that. He speaks to the inspiration behind the song, saying,
"It was inspired by Robert Glasper's rendition of "Letter to Hermione" by David Bowie. It shares the same message. I wrote it when I moved to NYC from Russia and broke up with my then-girlfriend."
