Singer-songwriting Mereba is an artist whose air of magic and pure originality travels straight through your ears to your heart strings. An aura of wisdom emanates from her soulful voice and celestial beats, and the result is nothing short of breathtaking. Her latest single "Black Truck" glimmers with that same otherworldly energy, a testament to her ingenuity. The track, released back in February of this year, is now joined by its equally ethereal and moving video.
The video takes place under the blue illumination of a barely-there moonlight, moving between scenes on the shore and through the forest. Mereba is seen riding on top a black truck, singing her lyrics passionately, yet gently as the wind surrounds her. The entire video is simply stated, letting each powerful visual speak for itself while the song's echoing percussion and light resounding chorus play in the background. It encapsulates a jumble of emotions through its depiction of the highs and lows of life and love. Mereba produces a raw art through her music that sets her apart from other artists without the added flashy embellishments, adding to the one-of-a-kind artist that she is.
Influenced by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill and Joni Mitchell, Mereba has created her own unique genre of alternative R&B through her own innovation. Growing up both across the east coast and in her father's home country of Ethiopia, Mereba has taken her personal experiences and translated them into a distinct style through her music.
Before "Black Truck," she was best known for her collaboration with contemporary R&B sensation 6lack, as well as collaborations with J.I.D. and Earthgang. Mereba has also performed for Ones to Watch's very own Baño Flaco showcase this past spring.
