…But wait, there’s more. Not only does Cruel Youth sound strikingly akin to the legendary Winehouse (RIP), but she is also Teddy Sinclair of Natalia Kills, the English actress and singer who was formerly signed to will.i.am’s record label. Before launching Cruel Youth, she collaborated with Madonna on “Holy Water” from her Rebel Heart album and with Rihanna on “Kiss It Better” from her most recent album, Anti. There, you learned something new today.
Regardless of her highly impressive history, Cruel Youth rides high on our Ones To Watch list. The project was initiated by Sinclair and her husband in 2016, and with only three singles released thus far, we can already see the potential overflowing from England all the way to Los Angeles. Sinclair shared about its inception,
Cruel Youth is the musical love child created during a 3-month lock-in at my studio with my husband Willy Moon. It’s The Ronettes on Oxy, it’s a narcotic lullaby, a psychedelic jingle you might hear waiting in line at a Western Union or a laptop symphony soundtracking a car crash in slow motion. Willy and I met whilst both signed to Universal Records, and married only a few months later. Cruel Youth is an intravenous hit of our love and everything I find beautiful.
“Hatefuck” is the most recent of Cruel Youth’s spellbinding singles, joining “Mr. Watson” and “Diamond Days” to keep fans begging for more. We’ll have all three songs on repeat leading up to the debut EP release on Sept. 16.
