With cosigns from Zane Lowe and the Beats1 Radio crew, the smooth ease of London-born Minke’s debut single “Gold Angel” has the blogosphere buzzing.
Captivating in her simplicity, Minke’s melodic blend of alt-rock guitar riffs and soulful vocals sound similar to a hypothetical collab from The XX and Lianne La Havas. It’s fitting that Minke released “Gold Angel” on the heels of International Women’s Day; the poetic lyrics, cowritten by Paul Garred (The Kooks), ruminate on living up to unrealistic societal expectations for women.
It’s unusual that an artist’s first release is as hyped as “Gold Angel,” but Minke deserves the highest of praise. If her brooding alto is any inclination of her potential, the artist has a massive future ahead.
Listen to “Gold Angel” below, and stay tuned for more Minke in 2017.
