NEW BAND DISCOVERY: The Sensual Duo That’s All About Her

Her has captured our ears with their seductive and smooth R&B-infused sound. Few acts are releasing music as tender and beautiful as Her, a French duo whose craft will leave you hot and bothered in your imagination.

Victor Solf and Simon Carpentier are the vocalists, songwriters, producers and masterminds behind Her. Natives of Germany and France, respectively, they met while attending high school in France. The pair released their debut single, “Quite Like,” on SoundCloud in 2015. After electrifying fans back home, the duo released their debut EP, Her Tape #1, which has garnered over six million streams to date. Her’s single, “Five Minutes” was featured in Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign.

The duo has made it well-known that their work is about “her,” whomever she may be. Tape #2 is the follow-up to the duo’s critically acclaimed Her Tape #1. Wolf and Carpentier have made it well-known that their work is about “her,” whomever she may be. In the “Intro” track of Tape #1 they share,

“The Woman does not exist, though there are women. Not a single woman can represent The Woman. To say it all, it would require all woman.”

Tape #2 is a continuation of Her’s exploration of women, love and relationships, as the pair examines maternal love between a child and a mother as well as romantic love between partners. The six-track EP solidifies their status as one of the year’s most sensual (and talented) new bands.

Along with the release of Tape #2, Her released the music video for their lead jazzy-single, “Swim.” The visual explores the idea of a modern-day Joan of Arc. The lyrics, “Swim against, swim against, against the tide. Walk against, walk against, against the flow,” symbolize how strong and powerful women must be to continue to rise up in the face of injustice. The video was directed by Liswaya, former Artistic Director for Dior, Cartier and Louis Vuitton.
