Both American migrants, NoMBe from Germany and Thutmose from Nigeria, the pair isn’t exactly an unexpected collaboration. In fact, NoMBe and Thutmose mesh so well together that you might forget they didn’t start out as the dynamic duo that appears on the new Run Wild EP.
They first joined forces almost a year ago with their spacey ballad “Summer’s Gone,” a laid back, beachy lament that bids a farewell to the changing seasons and reminisces on a summer of an all-consuming love. The bouncy breath of fresh, airy music laid out by Nombe and Thutmose feels organic, the way each of their styles meld together to explore a playful, breezy side of modern music. From their latest project, you can expect everything from drifty, psychedelic R&B to more upbeat, jazzy alternative music. It’s hard to place their music into a specific box, but the EP’s medley of smooth vocals, textured beats, and fiery energy creates a contemporary sound that’s unlike much else.
Run Wild notably shares the same name as the lively “Run Wild” single, which was released just a few months ago and was used for the 2018 FIFA World Cup trailer. NoMBe and Thutmose remain consistent with that same vibrancy on their dreamy track “Sunburn,” using bass and soft acoustics as a backdrop to this alt-soul track. The pair is consistent with their creativity, venturing additionally into uncharted territory of electronic music, transitioning from hazy guitar into bold, futuristic production.
Run Wild is comprised of six songs that each harness a unique type of playful energy, a one-of-a-kind ambience created by NoMBe and Thutmose. It’s a journey into a more innovative side of their established sounds, and you can take that journey yourself by listening here:
