PLAYLIST: Anti-Pop & Its DIY Superstars

On the opposite end of the infamous SoundCloud rap landscape, a recent influx of DIY wunderkinds have helped coin a new genre: anti-pop. With a preference for coarse, lo-fi sounds and transparent harmonic progressions, it's difficult to pigeonhole these artists into any specific genre but their own. They play against the high-fidelity pop music that saturates the airwaves while mastering the latest production software through a myriad of YouTube tutorial videos. Anti-pop is a culture as much as it is a genre. These homemade, internet stars have garnered cult followings with their self-released projects and it's only a matter of time until they emerge into the mainstream.

We've compiled a playlist of 28 songs from some of our favorite anti-pop artists to prepare you for an exciting year ahead. Follow the playlist on Spotify here
