PREMIERE: Airpark Releases Nostalgic-Induced Single “Devotion”

Relative newcomers in the folk-rock scene, Airpark, display their "devotion" to the genre with their latest effort. After releasing their first single of 2018, "Yours Till I Die," this past spring, the soft-rock duo is entering the autumn season with their new tranquil single, "Devotion."

The track finds the Nashville-based band of brothers, Ben Ford and Michael Ford Jr., swimming through gentle waves of vocal bliss and laidback arrangements. There's a certain charm about Ben's causal vocal delivery that eases the fatigued mind and soul. The endeavor carries on delicately with subtle yet crafty guitars. This unrushed movement in the song's harmonious composition is stimulating, but never lackluster in its execution. If you want to look to comparisons, this duo gives off the impression of east coast country-rock group Futurebirds mixing with better-known west coast folk rockers, Dawes. You're getting all those tender folk ingredients, but Airpark's 70's pop influences and groovy drums provide them clear characteristics to stand apart.

Michael Ford Jr. detailed the process of making the song,

"'Devotion' was the first song we recorded out in Denver with Tennis. Thanks to some really great vocal direction from Alaina, we got the final vocal in just a few takes. I think it might be my favorite vocal performance I've ever recorded - it feels urgent but not over performed. The majority of the tune was completed in a day and gave us some strong momentum for the rest of the sessions at Mutually Detrimental."

Airpark is set to release their next EP in early 2019 via their own Eugenia Hall Records. The band notes that the EP is "mostly about confronting and overcoming conflict, but there's definitely one tune about lust." This forthcoming album is a follow-up to the pair of EPs from 2017, Early Works, Vol. 1 and Early Works, Vol. 2. Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley of the synth-pop duo Tennis produced and recorded Airpark's forthcoming EP in Denver, CO at their studio, Mutually Detrimental.
