Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving. - James E. Faust.
Los Angeles-based singer Beck Pete is honest. Outside of the fact that she can easily blend layers of pop, rock, and indie into her music, her appeal lies in her ability to make music and tell the truth - Her truth. Fans are always able to sense authentic vulnerability in music and that’s part of what connects us to some artists more than others. Her ability to tell stories helps her share her personal experiences in a relatable way and make people more comfortable sharing their own.
“Gently Break”, Pete’s new single, revolves around being in an unhealthy relationship, believing that you don’t deserve better, and all the physical and emotional tolls that it takes on you. Here is what Pete had to say about the song:
This song specifically showcases a situation that is all too common romantically where a person thinks that they are undeserving of love and therefore romanticizes the idea of playing a victim in an unhealthy relationship. That can feel powerful if you convince yourself that you made the decision to pursue this type of partnership, even sexy. That’s the feeling that this video showcases. I have been that girl, and can’t say that I won’t be again. I’m just hoping that this song serves a reminder of that tendency, and spreads awareness to everyone who hears it that 1) they are not alone in this cycle and 2) they can break it by believing they are worthy of something positive and healthy.
