In today’s world, we think we’ve heard it all, but then there are tracks that come around like a shooting star or a million year-old comet that throw things completely out of orbit. The genre-defying, foot-tapping single, “Color World,” is one of those tracks. Created by rising L.A. artist Tim Atlas and neo-soul/R&B trio Hablot Brown, “Color World” plays off a colorful array of familiar genres all while paving out a spot for itself.
A former Bay Area native, Tim Atlas found himself performing for Pharrell and Rihanna and after receiving their encouragement, moved to Los Angeles to pursue his music full time. His unique blend of indie pop, R&B, and soul instantly connected with fans and has already garnered him 25 million streams. With his third EP pencilled in for April next year, Atlas collaborated with Hablot Brown on “Color World,” in order to achieve that soulful and warming feeling that both creative acts strived for.
“‘Color World’ came to us quickly and naturally; the Hablot Brown guys and I belong to relatively different genres, but this collab was perfectly split between our sounds.”
Hablot Brown is comprised of Linus Lester-Hodges, Austin Brown and John Brown. In their first 12 months of releasing their music, the trio were streamed over 7.7M times on Spotify in addition to smashing straight into the Global Viral 50 and Fresh Finds, releasing their sophomore EP with US label Soulection. The trio has also gone on and toured with Tom Misch and Honne.
The trio stated,
“Working with Tim on this track was fantastic. ‘Color World’ was an instant vibe in the studio, and pretty much wrote itself. We’re stoked for y’all to hear what we came up with.”
“Color World” emerges as a warm, open, and soulful offering that should continue the intrigue around these two rising acts. 2019 is looking like it should be a milestone year for both of them.
