Savannah Conley Addresses The Trials of Finding Authenticity in “Never Be Ourselves” Live Video [PREMIERE]

Savannah Conley was raised in the thick of Nashville's vibrant music scene–and it shows. Born to a touring guitarist and background singer, she has inherited stunning musical ability, not to mention the tender lyricism for which Nashville artists are known. Conley released her debut EP Twenty-Twenty in early 2018, and was named an "Artist You Need To Know" by Rolling Stone shortly after. The 21-year-old just wrapped up a tour with Anderson East following shows with The Head and The Heart and Vance Joy. She's back with a live video of her song, "Never Be Ourselves," and it's recorded evidence of a Southern icon in the making.

Conley's voice contains a birdlike clarity, reminiscent of Dolly Parton's sunny southern twang. The emotion that runs through her vocals is inspiring, but her intimate lyrics are goosebump-inducing and relatable. The video is relatively stripped down, with only backing musicians and LED light strips behind Conley. Her performance is a testament to her live ability–raw, stirring and real.

She touched on the inspiration behind "Never Be Ourselves," saying,

"I had been in a long term relationship that sort of shut my eyes to the world. After that ended, I had to kind of force myself out into this push and pull of re-entering social circles, dating circles, life in general. It was shocking to me how difficult it was to get to the core of people. Playing it live is not as difficult as some other songs, but even the further I get from that time in my life, it still hits me the same that we can never truly understand each other."
