Indie electronic artist shallou has crafted a beautifully ambient new deep house track “You and Me.” With a soft, steady pulse and twinkling electronic accents, the downtempo but rhythmic song is impossible not to sway along to. Yet “You and Me” reaches deeper into the depths of listeners’ hearts, lyrically weaving a story full of nostalgic emotion.
The singer-songwriter-producer sings, “Blankets hold us tight / Whisper… forever burned inside / Trust that this is not goodbye,” like a lovesick lullaby. As his voice rises in ethereal fashion from the surrounding dreamy soundscape which shallou so masterfully creates time and time again, an intimate warmth and sincerity envelopes anyone fortunate enough to be listening. In each chorus, shallou sings lines like, “Falling backwards / Just you and me,” that mirror so well the sentiment embodied in the song’s production itself. The artist is joined by Cautious Clay, adding additional smooth vocals to the new track.
Shallou is shooting a new video to join his collection of visuals, the Nomad Series. Another music video is also in the works, this time a stripped down live performance of “You and Me,” to be set somewhere outdoors where the landscape’s sounds can interact with the song’s acoustic rendition.
Raised in Washington, D.C., shallou moved to New Orleans for college before landing in Chicago. This is where Joe Boston, the man behind shallou, began dabbling as a “bedroom producer.” Clearly he has continued to only grow artistically since then. His debut EP All Becomes Okay dropped earlier this year in May, already garnering over 25 million Spotify streams.
Currently on the road supporting QuinnXCII’s sold-out 30-date The Story of Us North American tour, shallou has performed alongside a number of rising artists from the electronic world already, including Petit Biscuit, Roosevelt, and El Ten Eleven.
