The Week in OTW: The SXSW Comedown

Has it really already been a week since the madness that was SXSW 2014? It’s been a job getting back on our feet, but with so many events going on, it’s safe to say we’ve officially made it. Here are the week’s highlights in Ones To Watch!

On repeat

Singles - Future Islands. Listen here

Baltimore badasses Future Islands have a new album out and it’s quite possibly one of the best things we’ve heard all of 2014. Listen if you are curious what “too noisy for new wave, too pussy for punk” sounds like.

Atlas - Real Estate. Listen here

New Jersey’s Real Estate helped get us through the grind with the sheer simplicity of their new album, Atlas.

Cover art we’re loving

Because whoa, so fun. Liars’ new album Mess also happens to be a great listen. Stream it here, or listen below.

Show of the week

The UK’s Jungle and Echo Park’s James Supercave coolly took over Los Angeles Monday night after dually impressive runs at SXSW.

Hang of the week

We checked out denim and heard some excellent tunes from our pals Bad Suns last night at Nylon Denim Days.

Feature of the week

We met up with Peter Kirk of NYC five-piece Panama Wedding. Read our interview here

Tangent/rant of the week

The band Thumpers. Seriously. This London duo is all fun, gutsy, yelpy hand-clapp-y folk that sticks in your brain after seeing and hearing it in action. They have been around for a bit, but man oh man are you missing out if you haven’t heard their debut album yet. Check it out.

Of course, we had to. Featuring all the bands we saw (and didn’t see) and loved, including Madi Diaz, Wet, Tove Lo, Connan Mockasin, James Supercave, Thumpers, JUNGLE, Kelela, and so on…
