True artistry cannot be put into a box, and don’t you dare try. The truest of visionaries require the space to spread their creative wings and explore various soundscapes, collaborations, and musical identities. Take Nick Wisdom for example, the Vancouver-based DJ/producer who thrives as half of Potatohead People, has teamed up with the likes of Illa J, Phife Dawg, and Kaytranada, AND most recently stepped out with a solo release entitled Intimate Strangers.
We’re proud to introduce your first look at Nick Wisdom’s “Don’t Tell,” a jazz-infused piece oozing with divine funk from every corner. Following the precedence 1995 hip-hop duo 1st Down, Nick incorporates his signature ‘80s bassline and smooth-as-butter vocals by San Francisco’s K-Maxx to create a modern boogie anthem.
Nick Wisdom shared,
“A funky ode to 1st Down’s ‘A Day With The Homiez,’ ‘Don’t Tell’ is a track you should tell all your friends about.
My man Hubbz at Beatstreet Records in Vancouver put me on to K-Maxx, his 7” on Cherries Records was the first I heard from him and was instantly hooked. Then I realized he had done some work with Bastard Jazz in the past so we hollered at him and he was down! Look out for K-Maxx on the next Potatohead People record too.”
The full Intimate Strangers record will be unleashed tomorrow, September 15, via Bastard Jazz Recordings–pick up your copy here. In the meantime, get down with “Don’t Tell” below:
