Two years after releasing their first single, and almost a year and a half since releasing their first EP, Vacation Manor is back with a new upbeat single, “Fading”.
Vacation Manor is a four-piece band from Lynchburg, Virginia that formed in 2014 after winning a Battle of the Bands competition in Washington, D.C. Several months before the competition, Nathan Towels (guitar, vocals), Josh Morales (guitar), Dane Spearman (bass), and Cole Young (drums) all met at a local music festival where they were all playing with separate bands. A few months later, Dane and Cole accepted Nathan and Josh’s request for a backing band for Battle of the Bands. After winning the competition, the four decided to start Vacation Manor.
Fast forward two years and Vacation Manor has released two singles and their first EP, titled Girl, Say. After the release, the band toured small music festivals and played a handful of small shows along the East Coast. However, in all the mayhem, Josh Morales decided that he was unable to continue working with the band, despite his love for the guys and for music. After Josh’s departure, the three remaining members brought on Carson Cody on keys. Since then, Vacation Manor has performed with many acts, most prominently Magic Man, Civil Twilight, and Colony House, with their following growing organically over time.
Vacation Manor’s music almost seems like a brighter Young the Giant, with the likings of Leagues and War on Drugs. The tropical, laid-back vibes they revealed on “Girl, Say” are perfectly embodied in their newest release, “Fading.” From the first electric strums of the guitar, you’re entranced by Nathan’s gentle storytelling and captured by the upbeat tempo of the track. Though Nathan might “feel it fading” so much so he wants to “get up and run,” there’s no way he’s talking about the chemistry he has with his band members. Just by listening to this song, you can feel the harmony and connection that Nathan, Josh, Dane, and Carson share. None of these guys seem to be running anywhere anytime soon, and neither will we.
It looks like we’ll being hearing more from Vacation Manor in the coming months. We look forward to hearing the band mature, and hopefully getting to see a few shows on the West Coast.Listen to the new single below:
