WATCH: Harriet in 'Ten Steps'

Forget Jenny Lewis (yeah we’re going there), the award for best music video of late goes to L.A. rock outfit Harriet. The unparalleled thing about Harriet isn’t their ridiculous Instagram, but the vivid storytelling they bring to each visual effort tailing their music. We were first blown away by the nervy humor found on “I Slept With All Your Mothers,” the taunting single off 2012’s Harriet EP. This was followed by “Burbank,” the first video single from their forthcoming album, It’s Totally Cool I Wouldn’t Even Worry About It. One set in a faded tequila bar, the other in a desolate strip club, each follows the outlandish twists and turns of a down-and-out narrator whose life could make a drinking coaster out of James Joyce’s Ulysses.

The latest video to emerge from filmmaker Ethan Berger’s direction is no exception. “Ten Steps” depicts frontman Alex Casnoff in blueface and a state of unflinching staring. It’s nearly creepy until he’s joined by lights, camera, and backup dancers. From what we’ve heard, Harriet is coming up with some sumptuously weighty alt rock. If you’re in the mood for something off the beaten synthpop path, download “Ten Steps” below and stay tuned on more from Harriet here
