As listed under the “Interests” section of their Facebook Page, the boys of alternative-rock band Wildling enjoy the “California Coast, Friends, very late nights, very early mornings, sunrise,” and “the ocean.” If a very late night, very early morning, or sunrise drive with friends along the California Coast had a sound, it would be embodied by Wildling’s upcoming EP, here. The EP was released today, Sept. 1, by Warner Bros. Records, marking the Los Angeles-based band’s major label debut.
From the onset, here takes on a light-hearted, nostalgic feel. The EP stays true to an alternative-rock sound while exploring a variety of moods—ranging from the vibe-y “Lilywhite” to the wistful yet upbeat “Hummingbird”—and even subtle bits of electronic elements in “Little Lies.”
The producers behind the EP are no newcomers to the industry: here is produced by Grammy Award-winning Joe Chiccarelli, well-known for his work with bands such as The Strokes and The Killers, and Alex Salibian, who most recently produced and co-wrote Harry Styles’s debut album. While this may be Wildling’s first major label EP, their music certainly stands up to that of those industry giants. here has a familiarity reminiscent of the aforementioned artists but is still fresh and exciting in its own right.
