Dylan Cornique's "Advice From the Internet" Is a Decidedly  21st Century Love Story

As a child who grew up with unfettered access to the internet throughout the early aughts, I consider it a miracle that I'm still alive and only left with minor lasting psychological effects. That's not to say the internet isn't without its fair share of wonders - apologies for sounding like a '90s VHS infomercial - but as social media has evolved to become an all-powerful and all-encompassing part of our daily lives, it's increasingly difficult to determine when the pros outweigh the cons and vice versa. It's this "always-online" foundation that builds the emotional crux of Dylan Cornique's latest single, "Advice From the Internet"

"Advice From the Internet" sees the actress, influencer, and artist delivering on an iridescent, infectious slowburn. Swaying between unabashed romanticism, as she recounts a relationship she wouldn't mind doing over again and again, and cheeky social media commentary, Cornique's latest is a decidedly modern story of love and heartbreak. "Oh, I took advice from the internet / Turns out I should be dead / I could get help but it won't change the way you left / Should probably call my friends / Turns out I'm not depressed," sings Cornique in a moment that embodies anyone who has ever googled "why do i feel this way?"

There's a lot to take away from Cornique's understated pop tour de force. For starters, the now-defunct Yahoo! Answers is likely not the best or first place you should turn to when dealing with heartbreak, or any emotional conundrum for that matter. But more than anything, there is something to be said about the negative feedback loop that exists in a society that is always online, that has constant access to cherry-picked glimpses into not just strangers' lives but our own memories. So, maybe next time you're looking for advice, call a friend instead of asking someone on Reddit.
