Eighty Ninety Contemplates Heartbreak on "Got Your Message"

Brooklyn-based brothers Eighty Ninety have just released their new single, "Got Your Message." The new track is slated to appear on their highly anticipated sophomore EP, Bowery Beach Road, alongside previously released single "10K Summer Nights."

Brothers Abner (vocals) and Harper (guitar) James burst into the music scene in 2016 with single "Three Thirty" that was followed by their debut EP, 2017's Elizabeth.

They've been making waves ever since - headlining this year's Elsewhere Zone One in Brooklyn, opening for Des Rocs and Savoir Adore, and signing with Hard 8 Working Group (Billie Eilish, FINNEAS, Ashe). Their single, "Your Favorite Song," even landed a spot on Taylor Swift's "Songs Taylor Loves" Spotify playlist recently.

Sticking to their breezy, indie-pop roots and minimalist production, "Got Your Message" explores the heartache that comes from wanting to be with someone but realizing they're not right for you.  Abner shared with Billboard,

“It’s about facing that reality and then also understanding that an experience or relationship like that can be meaningful, even if you know it has to end."

Abner and Harper channel emotional authenticity, maturity and clarity in a lot of their lyrics. As Harper explained,

"Getting a little older, you've got a lot more emotional clarity. You have some clarity over some of the confusions and heartbreaks and suffering you don't really understand when you go through them in your twenties."

Listen to "Got Your Message" below, and keep an eye out for Bowery Beach Road, scheduled for release later this year.
